Renew Workshop Sponsors

Renew

There are many things that I love about this industry, but the thing I love the most is the amount of love and support you get from other photographers and photography companies.  In my book…the photography industry FAR surpasses any other industry, and believe me…I have been in a LOT of industries (child care, medical, service, teaching, marketing).

Below, I have listed the sponsors of this amazing workshop.  I stand behind each company 100%.

What Is Renew?

My vision for Renew Workshop is to have a very small group of serious photographers who want to learn how I do things…editing, relating with clients, time management, automating tasks, etc.  My goal is for all 5 attendees to leave feeling Renewed.  Believe me…I know how it is.  Most of you are at the point in the year where you are sinking.  A lot of you are looking for a workshop that will inspire you…give you the keys to get to the next level.  Some of your businesses are growing faster than you can manage and you need to learn how to automate your workflow so that you can maximize your time.  A few of you are frustrated because your business isn’t growing fast enough.  You’re in desperate need of advice on pricing, etc.  I bet that most of you want one-on-one training on what lenses to use, what settings should you shoot with, etc.  That’s what Renew is all about.  It’s all about lounging in my living room, talking openly about where YOU are, and how to get you going in the right direction.   For an entire 8 hr day, I will be yours.  I will show you exactly how I run my workflow, how I shoot, the tools I use to run my business, and how I stay Renewed in the midst of it all.

Info:

Date: Aug. 28th

Cost: only $500

Time: 10-6

**only available to those 1 hr. outside of Greenville, NC

This workshop has only 3 seats left. First come, first serve.  Click here to register:

sponsors

ShootQ:  Without ShootQ, I would be lost.  I’m going to give each attendee a tour of how amazing ShootQ is,and how valuable it is to their business.

GreenTent: I have been working with GreenTent for one month and they have taken my website from the 5th page of Google to the top of the second page (in ONE MONTH!).  High Google rankings is such a big deal.  I am so thankful that I can trust GreenTent to get me to the top without any work on my part.  Can you imagine how many more inquiries you would get if you were on the front page of Google in your town?

Action Runner:  Action Runner is new found treasure.  My friend, Jim Davis-Hicks created a rockin’ program that basically automates your editing.  I’m definitely going to give a walk through of this amazing tool.

Simply Canvas:  It’s no secret that having a reliable canvas company is valuable.  All of my canvases in my office are printed by Simply Canvas.  Their color, quality, and customer service is amazing!  I’m excited that Renew is sponsored by such an amazing company.

Uno: My friend, Lauren Clark, is the queen of colorful images that POP!  She has been a huge inspiration to me.  I can always count on being inspired by her work every time I visit her website.  This past year, she created a 1 hr. dvd that shows you how she edits using Totally Rad Actions.  I’m pumped that she is giving away a discount to all the attendees.

Each sponsor is giving away awesome discounts to the attendees!

What is Renew Workshop?

Have you ever felt “stuck”?  Creatively stuck?  Personally stuck?  Do you feel bound to your computer?  Overwhelmed with editing?  Inbox overflowing?  A To-Do list a mile long?  Have you ever felt like your systems were ineffective?  Your workflow disorganized?  Are you unsure of how to relate to your clients?  Bring the best out of them during photo shoots?  Do you find yourself focusing on fixing your weaknesses instead of embracing your strengths?  Have you ever wanted to be a fly on another photographers wall to see how they shoot, edit, and manage their time?

If you answered “yes” to any of those questions, then you should attend Renew.  The first Renew will take place on Saturday, August 28th in my home office in Greenville, NC.  Because I am passionate about each attendee leaving renewed, there will only be 5 spots available.

Renew has three areas of focus:

1.  Photography- taking better pictures, editing, and growing your business

2.  Business- automating your workflow so that you can be free from the computer

3.  Personal Growth- since your workflow will be automated, you will have time to focus on your dreams and ambitions.

Photography Tips for Beginning Photographers

I usually try to post a photography tip on Tuesdays.  I was a little late this week.  I could blame it on the piles of images I’m trying to edit through, or the release of the For the Love Workshop information, but the truth is, I couldn’t think of a good thing to talk about this weeks.  There’s a million things that I WANT to talk about, but I knew that something good needed to be written…so I waited :)

So…for whatever reason, this week I have felt like a crappy photographer.  It’s a shame that I can be on a mountain top (literally and emotionally) and the next week be in a valley.  I’m not sure if being an entrepreneur in general causes this effect, or if it’s my quirky personality.  Either way, I’m sure I’m not alone.  I’m sure you feel the same way at times.  So, that’s what I want to talk briefly about.

Tips logo

Be ok with being “good”.  This statement leaves a lot of room for criticism and argument.  For my own sake, open your mind to the fact that it’s ok that you are not the most amazing photographer in the world right now.  Am I saying that it’s ok to be satisfied with being mediocre?  Not at all!  All I am suggesting is to stop beating yourself up over your pictures, your business, and your missed opportunities.  I’m the queen of dreams.  My brain operates on dreaming up another great idea.  At this point in time, I think my brain is on “big idea” overload.  When that happens, I usually get down on myself.  Self destructive? Yes!  But don’t you do it too?

My best friend’s mom used to always ask me this question when I was overwhelmed, “How do you eat an elephant?……….One bite at a time.”  This phrase has stuck with me.

3 years ago when I bought my first DSLR I looked at magazines and immediately wanted to produce images like that.  <–It’s healthy to think like that, but I wanted to make those images RIGHT NOW.  I was completely unsatisfied with crawling.  I wanted to RUN!  Geez, I didn’t even know how to shoot in manual none the less create magazine spreads.  I became obsessed with getting better.  (Let me keep emphasizing that that mindset is not bad in-and-of itself….it’s only bad when you begin to think negative thoughts over your work and your direction to motivate yourself to get better.)

I recently purchased the book, “Vision Mongers” by David duChemin.  I haven’t had a chance to read it all, but there was one section that opened my eyes. Here’s what it says,

“So if you’re discouraged and wondering why it’s so hard sometimes, know this:  It’s tough- in varying degrees- for all of us, for anyone who wants to be good at something.  We’re in this together.  So settle in; you’ve got a long way to go…………..(the next section is in regards to other “rock star” photographers) You don’t see the thousands of frames of garbage we’ve shot and still shoot- visual experiments that we’ve tried and failed at, the stages we’ve gone through to find our vision and master our craft.  But this can be your path, too- and because time both speeds by too fast and seems to take forever to get here, I can confidently say, “Be patient, you’ll get there”.”

So, in the words of Mrs. Cookson (my friend’s mom) “How do will you eat an elephant?”  Starting up a photography business looks like a big elephant.  It looks nearly impossible, doesn’t it?  But, the only way you are going to make it happen is to take one bite at a time.  Eventually you will be amazed at how much you’ve accomplished.  I can’t believe that I bought my first digital camera 3 years ago.  It feels like a lifetime ago!  “It’s the moving, the creeping that matters.” (-duChemin).  Keep going….you can do this!

For the Love Workshop

What a relief!  I have finally released all the details for the next For the Love Workshop!  I can’t even begin to tell you how excited I am about it!

Here’s a small taste of what will be experienced in Oregon in November.  Let me know what you think.

Photography Tips

Tips logo

Hey there!  As you know, each week I answer a photography question that was asked on my blog.  This week, Sean asked a great question.  He asked me what my favorite landscape tips are and how do I post-process my landscape photos.  So, I wanted to address that question today.  As opposed to me writing down all the details, I decided to make a 5 minute video that shows you exactly what I do in Bridge, ACR, and Photoshop to make my landscape photos pop. Thanks for tuning in! I can’t wait to see what other questions you have for me.

Beginning Photographer? Need Help?

aspiration logoAre you Needing Help Taking Better Pictures?

Believe me, I know how it is….you have big dreams in photography, but don’t know how to get started.  Or, maybe you have already gotten started, but you’re not satisfied with the images you are capturing.  If you are anything like me, you don’t have time to read your camera manual, read Photoshop books, and log into discussion forums.  You just want someone to tell you how to do it so that you can get on the road to making money.

amyblakeengagements_101bw600

Well, you’re lucky!  On May 8th at 10:00, I am having an Aspiration meeting at my house. I’m willing to dish out some of my favorite secrets to help you get to where you are dreaming to go.

What Am I Going to Learn?

The main idea of this class is 1.  Shooting Outdoors and 2. Getting the Most Out of my Clients.

We are going to start off discussing the basics:

*  What should I set my camera on?

*  What should I look for when scouting out locations for my clients?

*   How do I get my clients to have a good time (or look like they’re having a good time)?

* How do I make sure my images are sharp?

Then, we are going to head outdoors to photograph a couple of beautiful models.  You will have a chance to see how I relate to my clients.  After that, it’s your turn.  I will step back as you interact with clients, and I will give you tips on your composition, exposure, and client interaction.  Believe me, this is a no judgement zone…so you don’t have to worry about being embarrassed, uncomfortable, or judged in a negative way.  It’s all about having a good time!

Vegas!! Part 2- Greenville NC Photographer

IMG_4053

It has been hard to process all the wonderful things I experienced at WPPI in Las Vegas this past week (which was my first year).  Leading up to the convention, there was a lot of hype about WPPI and I was pretty anxious about the whole experience.  I kept hearing about crazy parties, networking, late nights, and early mornings.  All of those things are a little out of my comfort zone.  I’m not a “partier”, I love to sleep, and networking can be uncomfortable to me (sometimes).

I was pleasantly surprised at how everything flowed together this week.  The parties were a blast!  I slept in every morning, and meeting new friends was my favorite!

Today, Lauren Clark, asked me what my favorite experience was.  I narrowed it down to two things.

1.  I had an amazing time with new friends at Craft Steak on Monday night.  My friend, Eric Farewell, organized a get together and it didn’t disapoint.   My new friend, Shaun Austin, had me laughing so hard I cried (that’s rare!).

(side note: He and Kevin Swan created KISS Books.  I can’t wait to order my sample album, because I’m in love with the concept they’ve created…..simplicity.)

2.  My other favorite experience was PhotogUnite.  If you aren’t already a fan, I would become one.  David Jay and Mike Larson have done an incredible job of uniting Christian photographers from around the world.

So, back to the point…the whole purpose of PhotogUnite is written under the description section of its fb page.  ”A group of photographers uniting for the glory of God”.  How cool is that?!?

The meeting started with Mike explaining the vision of PhotogUnite and then Brian Wurzell and Mike Cowart led worship.  I saw several people wiping their eyes as God moved on their heart during worship.  I was deeply touched.  Then we broke into groups by regions.  My group was Southeast US (if you were in my group…please connect with me through my fb page, twitter, or my website.  You guys deeply touched my heart and I don’t want to lose touch).  We discussed Psalms 37.  If you haven’t read it recently, I would definitely suggest it.  Our conversation was not only deep, but inspiring.  This was definitely my most favorite experience.  I left refreshed and full of the love of God!  I’m SO excited about what God is doing in this industry.  I am blessed.

Well, thanks for tuning in…again!  I would love to keep the conversation going.  Feel free to leave a comment or connect with me through the methods listed above.

Here’s some of my pictures from Vegas!
