Recap of For the Love Workshop 02-10

I don’t even know where to start….

Let me start with saying that last week was incredible!  It was far greater than I could’ve EVER imagined.  My biggest prayer was that everyone who attended would experience God’s peace and love like they’ve never experienced it before.  I wanted everyone who was a part of this workshop to leave with new dreams and renewed vision…a passion to seek God over their businesses and include Him in every aspect of their life.  Boy…we got a lot more than that!

I knew that last week was going to be life-changing from the moment we arrived at the cabin.  My family (and Lauren) spent the night before everyone arrived in prayer and worship.  We gathered in the theater room to pray over the upcoming week.  As we were worshiping, Walt saw a vision.  He said that it wasn’t a coincidence that this workshop was held at the top of a mountain.  He said he saw us going to the top of the mountain to seek God’s face like Moses did.  When Moses came down from the mountain, his face radiated God’s glory.  I was really excited about that vision.  I didn’t foresee that we would literally be stuck at the top of the mountain (snowed in) to spend time with the Lord and draw close to each other as community of photographers who were hungry for God…but I was happy for it!

The next night (the first night of the workshop) Erik had a vision as we were worshiping.  He saw that nearly everyone’s faces were heavy with burdens, anxieties, fears, and unanswered questions.  He said that he saw all of our faces reflecting the joy of the Father by the end of the wekk.  He saw us nearly floating out of the cabins on the last day because our hearts were so light and happy.  This was yet another answered vision.  The transformation in the attendee’s and leader’s countenance was astounding.

That night, Lauren, Erik, and I met in my room to discuss weather concerns and plans for the week.  What seemed like a simple, logistical meeting turned into a 2 hour prayer and worship gathering in my bedroom.  We laughed, we cried, we sang to the Lord, we poured out our hearts before the Father….I knew that we were on the verge of something HUGE.  God loves when we draw away from the crowds to seek His face. (Matthew 11)

The next morning, everyone seemed to have already clicked!  The cabin was buzzing with excited photographers who were thrilled to connect with one another.  It was incredible to step back and watch as the attendees bonded.

We flowed easily into classes.  Erik and Lauren did an awesome job talking about how they do things.  I was so thankful for the relaxed environment.  Everyone was spread out in the theater room in t-shirts, pajama pants, and socks!  (That’s my kind of learning environment!)  There was no pressure to “perform”.  It was all “real”.  The teaching was structured more like a conversation.  Seriously…it was the coolest learning environment I’ve ever been in.

My original plan was to have an adventure in the Smokey Mountains every morning after worship.  I guess God had a different idea, because after the first day, we were snowed in until the last day!  Instead of sulking around the cabin, Lauren Clark found a few cardboard boxes and trash bags and we went sledding.  That girl knows how to have fun!  Every day we had free time to rest, relax, play…whatever anyone wanted.  It was a nice vacation!

Worship continued to get better and better.  The first night, nearly everyone was sitting down and watching Walt and I sing.  (From a worship leading stand point, that was a little awkward.  On the other hand, I’m sure the attendees were taken aback by our style.)  By the end of the week, everyone’s eyes were turned away from us and up towards heaven.  Tears were not an uncommon factor during worship.  I watched as hands were raised towards heaven.  The term “breakthrough” is an understatement if I’ve ever heard one.  By Wednesday night, we were praying for one another and crying as we experienced God’s love.  We began to feel their heart again.  What used to be a heart of stone was being transformed to a heart of flesh.  We began to trust God again.  Where we were once disappointed by different circumstances that we couldn’t explain, we were now full of hope, faith, and joy!  This had to be the glory that Moses felt on top of that mountain.

By the last night, just as Erik saw, our faces were reflecting joy.  Our countenances had changed.  We were truly happy, relieved, refreshed, rejuvenated, and restored.  We knew that “if God is for us, who can be against us”.  We knew that being called to this business, wasn’t nearly as heavy as we had let it become.  We felt “light”…almost like we could float off of the mountain (exactly as Erik had forseen).

Even though it has been several days that I have been back, I can still feel God’s glory radiating off of me.  I certainly miss my new friends, but I’m even more excited about what’s to come.  I’m already in the works of planning another For the Love Workshop in November.  We have more industry-leading photographers on board, who are hungry to see God move in a miraculous way.  I encourage you to keep in touch (RSS feed) and possibly attend one of the future For the Love Workshops.  I am going to work on a “first to know” newsletter list.  We have decided to keep it small, so stay tuned for the news.

Thanks for reading.  Enjoy some pics from the workshop.

How Did FTL Workshop Come About? Greenville, NC Photographer

As many of you know, I am planning a workshop called For the Love.  It was idea that, I believe, dropped straight from heaven.  On the morning of Oct. 6, 2009 I was reading my bible and listening to worship music.  All of the sudden, it felt like God plugged me into His computer with a USB chord.  All of this information about a spiritual retreat/workshop began to flood into my brain.  It was really divine, actually.  I immediately grabbed my journal and began to write down all of this information.  Seriously…I’ve never experienced anything like it.

I’ve been asked many times if I was scared to take on such a risk.  To be honest, there wasn’t really a choice.  I knew that this was what God told me to do.  There was no question about it…no other option than to obey.

I immediately called my friend, Lauren Clark.  Lauren is a photographer in Texas that is loved by so many.  Her blog is addicting.  When you read it, you feel like you should be cuddled up in p.j.s on a couch chatting over a cup of coffee.  She has that way with people.  Just from reading her blog, you feel like her friend.

I felt in my heart that she was supposed to be a part of this workshop.  When I called, she was on her way back from the Marfa trip to Oregon.  Even though she was in an airport, she gave me her undivided attention as I began to fly through all of these details about this spiritual retreat/workshop.  I can only imagine how fast I was talking.  Without hesitation she agreed to be one of the teachers.  She has been a rock for me through this whole process.  I very thankful for our friendship.

During that conversation with Lauren, she mentioned a photographer in Dallas that she felt would be a good addition to our team (Erik Clausen- a.k.a. Poser).  So, I checked out his website and was floored!  His work was breathtaking.  To be honest, I was a little nervous about emailing him.

One night, I visited his website again and felt like I was supposed to drop him a line.  So, I simply filled out his contact form, explaining what the Lord laid on my heart.  I didn’t expect for him to respond.  Within 2 hours Erik responded.  I will never forget his response (I actually have it saved in my inbox).  He explained that the Lord told him to do a workshop just like this one several months ago.  He spoke to his pastor about it, but didn’t feel like it was the time for it.  He excitedly agreed to be a part of it.

It all fell into place…The vision came, the seeds were planted.

I will never forget the “high” I was on at the beginning stages of planning this workshop.  EVERYTHING was coming together.  It seemed so easy.  One day, towards the beginning of the planning process, I felt the Lord say, “don’t think that planning this workshop is going to be easy.  You are going to face a lot of opposition”.  I’m so thankful that I wrote that down, because the honeymoon phase was definitely over within a couple of weeks.

Reality. hit. hard.

What if no one comes?  What if forget something?  What if we don’t get enough people to meet the costs?  What if….what if….what if?

I felt like there was a HUGE mountain in front of me.  I’ve never experienced as much weight and pressure in my life!  I was terrified.  Seriously….Terrified.

So, I called Erik to explain what I was going through.  I needed someone to simply BELIEVE.  I needed someone to pray for me.  I needed someone to speak LIFE not DEATH.  Boy, am I glad that I contacted Erik.

When I called him, I began to ask all the “what ifs”.  I’m not sure if the following words are his exact words, but basically he immediately stopped me and asked “What God do you serve?  Do you serve a Father who would give their child a gift/idea and snatch it away?  Do you serve a small God?  No!  You serve a BIG God.  A victorious God.  A GOOD Father.”  Then he began to pray for me over the phone.  He doesn’t know this, but I was weeping.  I could feel the fear melting off of me.  He read Phillipians 4 to me.  This scripture has been my rock…

“Don’t worry about anything; instead pray about everything.  Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done.  If you do this, you will experience God’s peace, which is FAR more wonderful than the human mind can understand.  His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.”   (Phillipians 4:6-7)

I was and still am so thankful for that phone conversation.

So, that is how this workshop came about.  I’m humbled that I’m a part of this wonderful workshop.  I can’t believe that it is only 12 days away.  I’m already excited about the next one (which will be in November!).

So, what is God telling you to do with your business?  What ideas has he given you?  Even if you aren’t a photographer, is there an idea/dream that seemed to big.  I bet that if you opened up about it, there would be others who would encourage you to take risks. Even if you aren’t going to For the Love Workshop, there is a group of believers that are ready to support you.  If you don’t know where to find them…I would start at For the Love’s facebook fan page.  Feel free to post your dreams and ask for others to give you advice.

For the Love BOGO Deal!

As many of you know, I have been planning a workshop/retreat in the Great Smoky Mtns with Lauren Clark and Erik Clausen.  Registration has been great, but we wanted to finalize our numbers as soon as possible to wrap up our plans.

This is GREAT NEWS for you!

We have decided to run a BOGO sale (buy one get one FREE!).  We are doing this for several reasons.  1.  This is great for husband and wife photography teams  2.  Friends and colleagues can share this amazing experience with each other.   3.  Let’s face it, the economy has put a damper on all of our pocketbooks (or wallets).  This sale will help those who are strapped for cash.

This also benefits us!  Why?  1.  We can get our numbers finalized,  2. We can fit more people in one cabin because those who split the BOGO deal will share beds.   3.  This helps increase the number of attendees because we aren’t as limited by the number of beds.  We see it as a win-win!

Here’s the deal…the BOGO sale is only this Friday, Saturday, and Sunday! (November 20th-22nd)

You can find out more information by checking out For the Love’s blog: www.fortheloveworkshop.com/blog.  We know there are several of you who can’t think of anyone to split the deal with.  If this is the case…reach out and connect with other photographers who are also in your same position.  You can always send a “shout-out” on the For the Love blog or our facebook fan page.

I have a few pictures to show you what you have to look forward to…

This is one of our cabins!

Check out some of the places we will be photographing!

We have tailored the classes for both beginner, intermediate, and advanced photographers.  We are confident that no matter where you are…you will learn exactly what YOU need to launch your career/passion to higher levels of success.

We can’t wait to see you in the Smokies!

We are on Forbeyon’s Blog!

Let me just tell you how much I love Forbeyon!  They posted an awesome blog post about our website.  Check it out!  Click here.

For the Love Registration-

Wow….today has been one of those days.  Let me tell you all about it:

First, I left my house at 6:00 am to get to RDU on time for my flight (which was leaving at 9:45).  At that point…all was well.  I made it through rush hour traffic without a problem.  Once I arrived at RDU, I was asked to step into a box that scans your body for…who knows what?  I’m starting the think that I might look a little suspicious to TSA, because I’m always the “random” screening.

My flight from RDU to Atlanta was great.

My flight from Atlanta to Memphis was great.

Here’s where it goes wrong…

I missed my flight from Memphis to Lubbock.  My choice at that point was to either wait at Memphis from 2:00- 7:45 and arrive in Lubbock, TX at 9:45.  Or, take a flight from Memphis to Houston, and then from Houston to Lubbock and arrive at 7:45.

Since I didn’t want to miss Lauren Clark’s UNO dvd launch party dinner, I decided to go for the Houston route.

Let’s retrace my outrageous route: Raleigh to Atlanta, Atlanta to Memphis, Memphis to Houston, and Houston to Lubbock.

By the time I was on my last flight out of Houston, I was about to go stir crazy!  I was so ready to arrive in Lubbock to see my buddies.

I finally made and we had an amazing dinner at Abuelos.  We are so excited about UNO’s launch tomorrow.  You HAVE to check it out!

On a different note:

We launched For the Love’s registration today.  We had more people sign up than I anticipated for the first day.  If you are at all interested in attending, I encourage you to go ahead and sign up.  There are only 40 spots available for this 5 day, 4 night all-inclusive workshop get-away.  Could you imagine how refreshed and full of vision you would feel after learning from nationally recognized photographers in the Great Smoky Mountains?  You don’t want to miss out…it’s really going to be amazing!

For the Love Contest!!

For the Love Contest!!!

We decided to have a contest to win a free spot to For the Love Workshop in February 2009!  Yep…you heard us right…FREE!

I (Ginny) was having a difficult time thinking of a good contest without repeating what has already been done.  I called my buddy, Lauren Clark, the mastermind of contests, and asked her for ideas.  We came up with a similar contest Lauren has run in the past.

5 Chances: Write one of your favorite scriptures on an inspiring photo and tag “Ginny Dowdy Corbett” on facebook.  (For some reason you can’t tag a business page.  So, you will need to add me as a friend first).
